This country has certainly made me realise that. I feel terrible for getting homesick but yesterdays bus ride was a real test of patience. It was a 5 hour bus ride from Mui Ne to Nha Trang and to start the bus was half an hour late. Once we finally got on the bus we went to sit in our seats but someone had already left their bags on them, the same person who wandered off from the bus and made us an extra half hour late. I could have accepted the fact that he’d made the bus late, we all make mistakes, but when he came on the bus and started to talk about how stupid Vietnamese people were and shit talk the country, I got really angry. He proceeded to talk crap the entire 5 hour bus ride.. we maybe got 20 minutes of silence? On our other side was the screaming child from hell. Her parents chose to ignore her revolting behaviour and let her do whatever she wanted. Behind us we had an old lady sat there burping and later put her feet up on my girlfriends chair. We could not have been happier to get off the bus. I don’t like to complain because I know I’m incredibly lucky to be here and seeing the poverty in this country makes me realise how blessed I am to have the opportunity to go home to a house, a car, an education and a clean environment. Yesterdays bus ride was just a push over the edge and, after our rough start in HCMC, it was the breaking point. But here is to a better next couple of weeks. We’ll make this trip work and so far it has been a huge learning experience. I’m keeping my chin up and counting my blessings.
This is not so much a question as it is a comment. I really love your blog. I have re-blogged a lot so I'm sorry for flooding you but it's just great. <3 I have also started following. I hope you're having fun on your trip!
don’t be sorry for flooding me! I really love seeing a repeated name reblogging my posts because it means there’s someone following me with similar interests! I tried to reply in your ask box but you didn’t seem to have one, which is a shame because I would’ve liked to speak to you more! Anyway, thank you for the lovely message :) Hope you’re well!
A better day today! We decided to walk across the city and check out the high end. We bought a few presents for friends and did a bit of shopping for ourselves. Lunch was spent in a little restaurant that overlooked the street and as I sat there a little girl came up and asked if I wanted to buy some chewing gum. I said no, so she challenged me to a game (if I lost she got the money if she lost I got the chewing gum for free) and when I said no thank you again she poked me on the nose and ran away! The kids are so cheeky here and some of them work from about the age of 4.
Last night Francesca and I celebrated Australia day at a bar that was hosting an Australia Day celebration. They gave us free shots because we were Aussies and the atmosphere was great. It was a nice light night after the heavy day we had had. Not only were we ripped off but we went to the war relics museum which was incredibly confronting. I’d like to avoid posting photos of this section of our trip as I have a lot of American followers and the images might be quite confronting for you. I will leave that decision up to you of whether you’d like to see them or not. Tomorrow we’re going to see the Cu Chi Tunnels, the tunnels that the Viet Cong lived in during the war. It could be pretty interesting seeing as I’m claustrophobic but I’ll give it my best shot. Hope you are all well and I’ll be posting some photos shortly.
Hello everyone! Just taking a second to see how you all are. I’m about to go off on a little adventure around Ho Chi Minh City but I’ll be doing a video blog tonight. So, how is everyone? Anyone else ever been to Vietnam and got some tips on where to eat in HCMC?
In 12 hours I leave on a 3 week adventure around Vietnam with my girlfriend, so I won’t be blogging much. I will, however, be doing the occasional video blog to keep you updated! I promise to stay in touch with those of you I talk to on a regular basis and I will be checking tumblr now and then, so any support or advice any of you need I promise to get back to you on! I hope you all have a happy and safe start to February guys :) Take care, I’ll be in touch! All my love, Matilda
